Our friend Jóhann Jóhannsson
Terrible news in from Berlin yesterday. Oscar nominated composer, client and friend was found dead at age 48. It has been such a privilege working with Jóhann over the years and being exposed to his prolific body of music. For the uninitiated who are interested, try "IBM 1401 A User’s Manual" which pairs orchestral textures against recordings of the old IBM mainframe computers his father used to work on when he was a kid, or his epic Golden Globe-winning soundtrack for "Theory of Everything," or for something freaky and contemporary, track down the choir + string quartet + electronic mash-up "Drone Mass." There are so many others, and tragically, there was so much more in the works. He was an inspiration for a generation of film composers. I know his music will continue to inspire for years to come.
